IAOMAS Visitors

Visitors and Guests

We welcome visitors and guests and the training opportunities they present. There is a “mat fee” of $15 per class for guests. First-time visitors are eligible to attend two classes for free. If you will be staying longer, please discuss the arrangements with the instructor. (No mat fee for IAOMAS members - see below)

Jundokan Honbu members, Jundokan Branch Instructors and US NGB National Team Members (past or present) may train for free.

Active students of the following karate teachers may visit for free with permission from their instructors:

  • Sensei Barb Cruz in Baldwinsville, NY
  • Sensei Eric Hill in Lockport, NY
  • Sensei Kevin Webb in East Syracuse, NY

We are also a volunteer member of the International Alliance of Martial Arts Schools

This non-political and non-style-specific affiliation allows students of other member schools to train for free (for up to two weeks) when travelling to any one of the over 600 IAOMAS-affiliated dojos worldwide.

What should I wear as a visitor?

At Syracuse Jundokan, we wear a simple and traditional white uniform without patches or emblems other than a Jundokan patch on the left chest. Some students have their names embroidered in Japanese characters on the jacket edge and pants, but beyond that, we like to keep things simple and traditional. In our competitive training classes, students may wear a WKF-Authorized uniform which may include the manufacturer's logo as specified by the WKF.

We understand that not everyone owns a traditional white uniform, and visitors are free to dress in whatever manner that makes them comfortable. Cleanliness and neatness is our guideline in this case.

For more information, please view our
grading requirements page which details our grading system and describes various guest situations.
